Hey Guys, there have been a number of requests to see the original bible that I used to pitch Di-Gata Defenders, well this is going to be the first public showing of that document! First a little history: Nelvana was doing a pitch session for a project called the Funpack, which was to be a creator driven series of 5 min interstitials. I wasn't initially going to pitch anything until a colleague prompted me on the train. I didn't have anything I thought would be good for this type of format but I decided that i did have a great idea that I thought they might be interested. So I spent the next 2 weeks putting together a bible and at the end of it I had to go into a room with 4 executive big wigs and I had 15 min to prove to them that my idea was great. to make a long story short, it worked and I spent the next year developing the idea with a script writer name ken Cuperus. You will notice some very big differences between the initial pitch and the final DGD's show and you will also see some things that didn't change. All in all I feel the show is a major improvement over the initial idea but that it still contains the important essentials. If I were to give anyone advice on pitching and creating a bible for an idea it would b this: 1. Communication is KEY! You want the idea to present itself as concisely and completely in a short a time as possible! Don't clutter it up and don't get too involved right off the bat. What is it that is interesting and unique about you're idea? Make sure that THAT is front and center. If you can't gfet someone excited about this idea in 5 min, then you never will! 2. Stay true to your inspiration, make sure you know where the defining moment in your life or kernel of excitement for this idea comes from and know where it lives! Visit it often and throw away anything that doesn't reflect it! 3. Familiarity is good. If there are familiar elements in your idea that people can relate to or other shows that will help them get an idea about your show, that's good BUT it shouldn't be the front and center, that has to be your hook. The HOOK (what is unique and original) is the focus, familiarity helps you relate that unique idea and make it easier to grasp. Without furthur adieu, the original DGD bible:
